2010: A Review

I've been fashion blogging for a year and a half now and I have to say that 2010 was quite amazing. Here is a look back at my favorite sartorial moments from each month...

A shoot on a bridge up north; a frigid frolic in a stream where I almost fell over.

A romp through the spooky up-north woods in my outdoorsy gear; a wintry walk with my mom's scarf.

Spring/Summer 2010

I know I'm quite late but rather late than never?!

So this is just going to be a sum up of all the trends and from there on I'll go on to talk about my favourite collections for this season as usual.

The start of the Spring / Summer 2010 season means it's time to refresh your wardrobe. And what a time it is: the first new season for 2010, and the first since the affects of the global financial crisis have begun the wane. Take this as an opportunity to not only splurge, but to set a course for how you'll dress for not just Spring / Summer, but beyond into 2010. So here my dear friends...*drumroll* are all the trends for the S/S season!

Hot pants and boy shorts

If ever there was a time to hit the gym, it's this Spring. Hemlines have crept up to shorter than short; in fact reaching the negative. Hot pants, boy shorts, and tap pants are all variations on this shorter-than-short style, which in many cases reveal more than just one's legs.

Knee high & over the knee socks

Knee high socks - as well as over-the-knee and thigh high socks - are back as a trend, and the options on how to wear them are many. From the sporty to the sparkly, to layerings of socks over tights; a great pair of socks can add volumes to an outfit.

Future warrior

The military and tribal trends collide to become this fierce fashion trend. Ancient civilisations come to life in leather tunics, metal plating, and war paint. Unequivocally fearless and with room for endless creativity, the main criteria for the modern warrior is confidence.

High dress splits

How to pull off the ultimate in sexy without reaching for the micro-mini? Add a long dress with a high split to your Spring wardrobe. From Versace's knock-out gowns to Lanvin's elegantly draping numbers, we look at numerous ways to rock a high dress split.

Sportswear: sporty clothing

Sportswear takes on a whole new level of cool when it hits trend status in 2010. Football inspirations turn tomboy chic to sexy yet effortless looks; while Bond girl scuba inspired clothing is the pinnacle of sporty bombshell. Sci-fi and Futurism

The dawn of a new decade brings forward-projecting thoughts which reflect in many a designer's work in 2010. From the dark depths of dystopia to the possibilities of evolution, sci-fi finds its way into fashion in various forms, as do re-interpretations of traditional futurist concepts.

Jumpsuits & playsuits

Every so often, one-piece styles of clothing have a revival. What started with bodysuits and leotards is now becoming a fully-fledged trend towards jumpsuits, playsuits, and rompers. Military fashion

If you've kept a keen on on past year's fashion trends military fashion will be nothing new to you. Yet, after two years of being the dominant fashion trend fashionable military clothing is evolving. Gone are the ostentatious reproductions of 18th and 19th century military uniforms. What replaces them though?

Patterned & printed pants

No longer must we stick to boring block colours on our lower half, for all varieties of printed pants have made their way onto the Spring runways. Whether floral, striped, abstract, bold or subdued... patterns on pants are giving us new bold wardrobe options for the warmer months.

See-through and sheer fabric trend

In Spring and Summer fashion tends to get a little more revealing; we blame it on the heat, and one's desire to show off. So in 2009 turn to the sheer / see-through trend to keep you cool yet sexy. 2009/2010's sheer pieces are a mixture of the soft and feminine, to the opposite extremes of the hardcore sex-kitten.

Boyfriend blazers

Continuing to be a wardrobe staple for Spring/Summer 2010, the "boyfriend" blazer is a simple way to look chic whether on a fresh Spring day or mild a Summer's night. A slightly oversized jacket or blazer, sleeves rolled up, is the pinnacle of relaxed cool.

Women's Accessory Trends for Spring 2010

Two accessory trends have caught our eye for Spring 2010: the latter is more suited to print (and the more confident fashioniser) while the former is the toned down version perfect for everyday wear.

Bow headbands

Oversized and attention grabbing, bows in 2010 come in many styles and forms. They can be cutesy or pretty, without a doubt - but there's also room for attitude and quirkiness too. Marc by Marc Jacobs, Luella, and Temperley all sported bows on their Spring 2010 runways.

Bunny ears

Headbands take a quirky turn with this unique micro-trend. Bunny ears, Mickey Mouse ears, and oversized bows are all styles which fit this vintage-sex-kitten meets sugar sweet girl-next-door look. This trend is a definite favourite for editorials and shoots; but that doesn't mean it can't work on the streets.

Ripped jeans and torn denim trend

Just when you thought they would never return... ripped jeans are back. Starting in 2008 with a horde of sexed-up editorial shoots and celebrity sightings, those torn denim shorts and shredded jeans are hitting the streets.Ripped denim in 2009 is certainly sexy and revealing - possibly more than ever. Patched jeans

We've seen jeans go from ripped to torn to downright shredded; so what can you possibly do next? Patch them of course! It's not for everyone, but its an option that's gaining traction. What is next?

With couture Fashion out doing its usual standards, creating lines which leave fashionistas all over the country breathless as they struggle to work out... What is next?
Designers such as Channel, Marc Jacobs, Erdem, taking over the runways with their unique looks, especially Channels Monochrome, eye catching, breath taking. This is the seasons latest. But what can we expect from next season, with the sailor chic ruling the seas and the Vintage 50's and 40's flash backs stating all over fashion week, what is next?. Will it be yet another Vintage season, or maybe Alexa Chung Will be the new inspiration, with her unwashed hair and boy style chic, this is my betting, but those can never be sure.
Kate Moss, appearing in Vogue recently is sure to know whats next, she always does, Doesn't she?
But don't worry folks, though next seasons ranges are a mystery, we can still end this season in style.

Vera Wang Resort 2010

Vera Wang cheekily called Resort her "Calypso-meets-Intermix" collection. What the reference to those eclectic boutiques means is this: Not only are there more colors—safety orange, peacock blue, chartreuse—than in the designer's last several seasons combined, but the line is also chock-full of item-y pieces like slouchy, whisper-thin cardigans; lace shorts; and all manner of T-shirts and tanks for her customers to mix and match. The inspiration, Wang explained, came from her daughters, who are fond of wearing long tees over short shorts, and the lineup did have a more youthful sensibility than her runway shows. Save for the daisy chain necklaces, embellishments were for the most part pared down, and her signature voluminous silhouette has been likewise streamlined. The key piece was the one Wang herself wore to the CFDA Awards earlier this week: an olive gold sequin racer-back tank dress over a sleeveless white cotton T-shirt.

Fall 2009-Winter 2010- GLOVES

The new fashion season Fall 2009-Winter 2010 is already close to us and that means it’s high time we spoke about trends. This post will give you information about tendencies in glove fashion.

First of all I’d like to say that gloves themselves are a hot trend this season and designers paid lots of attention to them.

Gloves are incorporated into many outfits and certainly add much sophistication and glamour to them. So, what is going to be top fashionable this fall and winter?

1. Leather gloves. I don’t think you are surprised to know that, because leather gloves are always in style.

They are classic and if you want to have a pair to be appropriate now and ten years later this is exactly what you need.

Besides, there are various designs for you to choose from. The only thing to limit your choice is that all pairs of this season are rather long, they never end right at your wrist!

I love the style Zac Posen offered - long over-elbow clinging gloves, they look really perfect.

Elbow-length gloves also look great.

Those which are a bit shorter than that are presented in a huge variety:

different colors, fingerless, tight or loose-fitting gloves.

2. Suede gloves. Suede gloves aren’t as practical as leather ones but they do look as beautiful! Again lots of colors and designs give as a great opportunity to find the very pair we want. Ralph Lauren offers us classic styles while Carolina Herrera and Derek Lam show more street-like and casual styles.

3. Velvet gloves. If you wish to add chic to your wardrobe select a pair of velvet gloves. Elegant and sexy, they are appropriate for different occasions. Some are of a simple design; others are embellished with strasses, or worn with a watch.

4. Satin gloves. They weren’t presented in plenty in designers’ collections but I decided they deserve your attention. Smooth and shining fabric looks wonderful and such a pair will serve as a good accessory for any clothes, from an evening gown to a denim combination.

5. Lace gloves. If we have already started talking about gloves to pair an evening gown we should certainly mention lacy gloves. They are so tender, so cute. Some are made in a quite sheer fabric, others are highly patterned.

6. Short mannish gloves. For girls who don’t like feminine items these are just the right option.

7. Knitted gloves. Winter is a cold season and knitted gloves will do your hands good. And they look pretty too!
