Millicent on the Boardwalk

Millicent on the Boardwalk
Millicent on the Boardwalk
I've been dying to do a bicycle post ever since Millie and I were featured on Ivy Style! The weather has finally turned spring-like which means plenty of opportunities for bike rides. I'm still deciding on which bicycle I'll be buying when we move, but I can't wait for something a little quicker and more new. Millie's from the late sixties/early seventies and rides a little bumpy and slow. Once I get my new bike, I plan on taking Millie in for a good tune up!

Isn't this dress so lovely. I've been really embracing neutral shades this year and, being that I used to only really wear black and navy blue, I'm quite proud of myself! Breaking out of my safety zone is never easy, but I have to say that I'm really loving the new lighter me! :o

Friday I'm in love

Friday I'm in love
I've been wanting to show you this pretty dress for ages, but the weather wasn't cooperating at all! The very sweet Gracie from DameJolie picked out this dress for me and I don't think it could be more perfect! I love it's big collar, ditsy floral print, and belted waist! I just know I'll be wearing it all spring/summer long.

Tonight, Cole and I are going out with his family to belatedly celebrate his graduation from his master's program! I've said this before, but I'm so incredibly proud of Cole! He not only got into a top mba program but also did so very well in all his classes!! Soon he'll be starting his new job in Minneapolis and we'll be meeting all sorts of new and wonderful people. We're finalizing a house that we'll be renting in St. Paul. I'm so excited to move and get settled!

Tomorrow, my family is throwing me a 30th birthday party! Part of me really wants to ignore this milestone, but another part of me wants to enjoy this last hurray with all my loved ones. It is going to be really hard to say goodbye again.

Yours,
Maria Sig 2

Blossoms all around

Blossoms all around
These photos were taken last Thursday in the park near my parents' house. I had planned on posting them on Friday, but we all know what happened with blogger. Grrr. I'm just happy that my missing post is back up and that my The Little Chickadee giveaway wasn't interrupted! By and by, today is the last day to enter the giveaway for the awesome Captain necklace just like the one I'm wearing in this post!

You'll never guess where Cole is taking me tonight as an early birthday present! Give up? We're going to a special book discussion and signing with the author, Charlaine Harris in Ann Arbor! I am a huge fan of her writing and have read all of her series' and of course the Sookie (True Blood) books are my favorite! I've already finished her latest book and will be bringing that with me to be signed! EEEeek, I'm so excited! Cole is the best! Below is a newly released promo for season 4 of True Blood. Book four is my favorite, so I hope this season lives up to my expectations!

Bask In Your Thought Crimes

Bask In Your Thought Crimes
Bask In Your Thought Crimes
It was a lucky happenstance when Cole and I found this graffitied building. I don't normally gravitate towards graffiti, usually finding it vulgar and disrespectful, but there is something I can't help but love about this wall. The more you stare at it the more you see the crazy amount of detail that went into its creation. Plus, it ended up being the perfect backdrop for this lovely bird print dress from Ruche.

When you first began it

When you first began it
When you first began it
It's been over a week since my last outfit post! Things have been crazy around here. Cole's graduating very soon from his Master's program and my sister's baby shower is this weekend. So much to do in so little time. Plus, Cole and I are planning a little southern road trip that we want to take in 10 days! Anyway, here's another 70s inspired look (which I seem to be wearing a lot of lately) with lots of gorgeous pieces courtesy of some amazing shops! I was planning on sticking to an all neutral theme and wearing khakis but I just loved how these wide leg jeans complimented the silhouette.

No one sleeps when I'm awake

No one sleeps when I'm awake
No one sleeps when I'm awake
Cole and I are spending the week in Royal Oak dog sitting for my parents. I feel like I say that a lot on here. But soon we'll be moving to MN and won't be able to dog sit anymore. I'm starting to get that strange melancholy feeling I always get before a big move. A big part of me will always consider Michigan home and no matter how many times I move away and live in other states I will always miss it and all that it means- family, food, lakes, cottages...childhood. The only other place Cole and I have lived a significant amount of time was the almost six years we spent in Massachusetts- Boston (1.75 years) and Marblehead (4 years). I still miss Marblehead a lot, but not for the same sentimental reasons as Michigan. Marblehead was so breathtakingly beautiful and historical and I could walk the dogs to the harbor every day and stare at the ocean, but it never felt like home. It was cold, distant and unfriendly and we never set down roots. I'm ready to find a new place to call home and hope that the Twin Cities will be that place for us to grow. I hope it will be friendly and welcoming. I hope we meet lots of lovely people and become a part of the community. I hope it's a place we can finally start a family.

mutual, I'm sure

mutual, I'm sure

Can you say "sunflare overload!" Cole and I were a bit off with our sunset timing yesterday. We're not used to it being so sunny and staying bright so late, making us off by a good hour and a half.:o In a way, I like some of the photos since they have a more grainy strangely-exposed film quality. But the perfectionist part of me, that dominates all, really wishes they were more clear.

I've been a really slow blogger this week and haven't been the best with responding to emails and comments. Just know that I'm not purposely being rude. My only excuse is that things have been a bit rough with my thyroid since I stopped the synthroid. The highs and lows are happening so fast that it's making my head spin. I'm hoping once my body adjusts to being off the drugs, it will start to chill out.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Cole was able to fix the water heater issue on Monday. He installed a new something-or-other and then had a plumber come in to fix a broken valve. It wasn't too bad since we high-tailed it to my parents for the weekend, but it's amazing how one day without hot water and I was a mess. I obviously would not survive long in the olden days.

Maria Sig 2
