Entryways and staircases - basics that should not be ignored

Staircases and entryways are something most of us have in our homes yet so many people overlook them when decorating their home. If you are one of them, or are just bored with yours, hopefully you'll find some inspiration below...

Okay, so really I just love the dog bringing the watering can...so cute!!

It must be so wonderful to open the door at the end of the day to this large, sparse entry.


The wall paper is a bit much for me, but the architecture of the stairs is beautiful, and the painted underside is interesting as well



I like over-sized round tables in foyers.

Interiors: Glossy Black

B recently made a desk for himself out of salvaged materials and painted the legs a chic, glossy black.  We haven't used glossy black in our home other than aforementioned desk legs but I'm really liking the strong statement it can make in a space, especially when paired with white walls, wood floors, and minty green.  Glossy black has always seemed a little too serious for my tastes but it certainly doesn't have to be.  The glamour of glossy black is kind of growing on me. How about you?

I love the color on the walls, but I don't know if I'd ever have the guts to use it on a wall...maybe I'd test it out in a bathroom or hall...have you used a color this bold?

Interiors: Paint It

These two paint projects, as featured in the May issue of Livingetc. make me want to paint something.  The banister is certainly not for the shy, but against a white wall and white stairs, it pops without looking tacky.

I'm sure the dripped paint on the dresser is harder to accomplish then it looks, but that's why I'd buy a thrift store dresser to practice on.  Fun isn't it?

Wow, now that's a staircase

My friend sent me a link recently to this amazing spiral staircase featured in Apartment Therapy.  The walls surrounding this beautiful staircase are lined with bookshelves.  Can you imagine?  What an ingenious idea for a library!  

You can read about how this beauty was constructed here.  All of that light streaming in is natural light which makes this staircase, quite possibly, one of the of the coolest I've ever seen.  Hope your week has gotten off to a great start!
