March Movie Madness

Two movies that come out on March 11th that I'm pretty excited about...

Jane Eyre: I've always loved the BBC version with Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson and I hope this one is equally as good.

Red Riding Hood: The tale always fascinated me as a girl and I love Gary Oldman.

Girl Crush

It's Monday again and as usual that means more work and less pleasure. Excuse my negativity but it's been snowing here all weekend and it still is and I really need some sunshine!



On the good side the weekend wasn't bad at all although spent mostly indoors. On Saturday we went to see "I am number four" with a couple of friends and went for drinks after that. The movie was surprisingly good, maybe that's due to my quite low expectations when it comes to the typical Hollywood blockbusters. But really, we all liked it, so I definitely recommend seeing it! The thing that I liked most about the movie though was Dianna Agron's character - Sarah and I suspect a lot of you will like her too. She was this lonely girl with the floral dress paired with a cute cardigan and a quite impressive collection of vintage film cameras. Like her already? I couldn't help but poke my boyfriend every now and then saying things like "Oh, look she has empty bird cages in her room like the one that I have! Oh, and paper cranes like the ones at home!" I still admire my boyfriend for not swithcing seats with someone else at the middle of the movie :D

When I get a few days off I tend to spend
a lot of time catching up online. One thing
that I am totally excited happens to include
three amazingly inspiring people/things:
Sofia Coppola (click here for an example of her work),
Natalie Portman (click here),
and perfume commercials (click here).
All are very inspiring to me and now they
are combining into one exciting commercial!

Yes, my favorite director/producer (Sofia Coppola)
is working on a Dior perfume commercial
with Natalie Portman. I am pretty excited to
see the end result!

Anyone know where I can sneak-a-peek?

Dream House

Summer Colors Week: Blue

Happy last day of Summer Colours week! It was a lot of fun, wasn't it? It definitely got me dreaming of a beautiful, hot summer with lots of sun and endless beaches. We'll probably be starting the season off with a weekend in the mountains next week. I still haven't used the voucher I won in the architectural competition a few months ago and it expires in August, so this is the time! Some of you asked me which project I entered the competition with, it was my Residential Building and I also wanted to thank you so much for being so supportive! You are the best! xo

Last night we went to see Eclipse at midnight. Did you guys get to see it already? I'm curious what you think. I have read the books and my opinion is that it wasn't as good as the book. I think New Moon was better made, even though it was the most boring of all parts, but the feeling from reading and watching it was pretty much the same. So, any opinions? Oh, and at some point at my theater people actually threw bottles at Bella, lol.

I hope you have a really wonderful Friday and an even better weekend! My last exam is on Sunday and after that we have a night out with the friends from the uni planned. I'm excited because everyone is doing their master in different departments next year and this is the last time we get together, sigh.

An Education

As I sit on my couch (sick...ugh) and look over Oscar nominations
with my roommate we cannot help but wonder
how the movie An Education slipped through our radar...
have any of you seen it? Is it as good as it looks?

In my opinion...
the time period + costumes + cinematography + music= perfection

Classic Film Star: Katharine Hepburn

Katharine is the kind of woman I respect: strong, independent, athletic and one heck of an actress. She didn't pretend to be a wilting flower, she wore pants instead of skirts and had an unforgettable accent. Aside from The Thin Man series, The Philadelphia Story is my favorite movie. There's something so appealing about her acting alongside Cary Grant and James Stewart.

Classic Film Star: William Powell

I can't mention Myrna Loy without writing a post on William Powell, the two go hand-in-hand. Like Myrna, he is hands down my favorite classic film star. His gorgeous accent and amazing acting chops won my heart the first time I saw The Thin Man. I can't specifically pinpoint what it is about William, but when I watch his movies, I always swoon a little.

Classic Film Star: Myrna Loy

I thought it would be fun, for the next few Thursdays, to share with everyone my favorite classic film stars. Every week, I will rotate between men and women. And not only will I share amazing vintage pictures of each star, but I will also do a portrait sketch.

I can think of no one better than Myrna Loy to kick start my series. Not only did she win Queen of the Movies in 1936 alongside Clark Gable the king, but she is also hands down my favorite classic star. Her intriguing looks, impeccable comedic timing and wonderful personality all make me completely adore her.

Plus, it doesn't hurt that I just love her onscreen chemistry with William Powell in The Thin Man series.

Mona Lisa Smile...

Have you seen the new Mid Century, 50's proper collection for Anthropologie. As you know I absolutely love anything and everything Anthro does (for the most part) but I especially love their visual displays and editorial photo shoots. I love how they create a story (which you can read about here) and then tell that story in order to show out a new assortment of clothes or a new collection of Home Decor. To me it gives new store bought items a nice vintage twist by giving them a story or background if you will. When you put on this skirt above or the beret below you feel as if you become a character in a long lost book or as Anthro likes to put an actress in Mona Lisa Smiles... And did you see those platforms above... swoon!!!

I Can't Wait to Get Carrie'd Away

(500) Days of Summer

After months of waiting I finally saw (500) Days of Summer! It was beautiful and of course I loved it. If you haven't seen it for whatever the reason, you totally should! I rarely like movies where the main character is an architect because it irritates me that they never show them properly. Well, this movie was no different, but for the first time it didn't really matter.

Okay, I am going to stop here and share just one more thing that I am sure most of you loved too - the chalkboard headboard! How cool was that? Being able to draw whatever headboard you'd like, make such large inspiration boards... There is one thing though - as a student I remember how gross my hands were after having to write on the chalkboard and all that dust going everywhere when I had to clean it. I have no idea how anyone can have this at home, especially in a kids room (where they usually put chalkboards). What are your thoughts?

Since We Last Spoke...

Since we last spoke I have been cast as an extra in a short independent film.
Though my role was small it was fascinating to watch how
the process of filming a movie takes place.
It takes a lot of work and time to film a single scene!

It all began when one of my best friends from high school came to visit
last Monday and as we tried to go out to lunch a lady invited
us to take part in a beach scene being filmed the following day.
We seemed skeptical at such an open invitation so she invited
us in to meet the director and let us read the script over lunch.
It turns out it was a wonderful opportunity and a fun way
to catch up with an old friend! It took one evening and a full day.
We had a lot of fun and met some very cool people.

So, I am hoping that this exciting story makes up
for my lack of posts this week.
I have SO much catching up to do in both
the blogging and real world.
But I miss you all!

There are many reasons why I adore The Thin Man movie:

• William Powell and Myrna Loy make the perfect dynamic duo. Their gorgeous accents (when has the American accent ever sounded better) and playful expressions are divine.
• Cole calls me "sugar" just like Nick calls Nora.
• I grew up with a wire hair fox terrier just like Asta.
• Nick and Nora know how to enjoy their cocktails.
• Nora has the most stunning nightgown collection.
• And last but not least, their wardrobes. Perfection.
  

Movie Review: The September Issue

Thursday evening I went and saw "The September Issue" with a friend of mine and was more than surprised. I wasn't sure if a documentary about Vogue would be exciting especially after The Devil Wears Prada, I mean how could anything else compare, but let me tell you this gets 5 stars from me. In my opinion the star of the show and American Vogue for that matter is Grace Coddington, the creative director for the magazine. The movie had style, fashion and lots of drama. I particularly like the more personal look at Anna Wintour, you actually left the movie feeling a tad bit sorry for her. Overall its very interesting and exciting for anyone who has ever looked at a September issue of Vogue, so actually get a behind the scenes look at all the work that goes into creating it. Highly recommended and a must see!

In the fashion world, the year begins in September... here's to another great one.
